Lori Hersberger produces art that is radically eclectic, drawing inspiration from an expanded and inclusive vision of culture. Moving between media as diverse as video, sculpture, performance, painting, and neon, his use of fluorescent colors, reflective surfaces and porous boundaries between artwork and reality draws in part from rock music and the freedoms it implies. Despite this plurality, the work is surprisingly coherent, keeping to an idiom of vibrant texture and violent interventions. In fact, Hersberger views his varied output as facets of a whole and frequently shows all paintings, neon, sculptures and video together, as a complete installation.
