Beginning in June 2011, pit has brought art to the public space in Haspengouw, Belgium. It is the first project in the Z-OUT series, the ambitious initiative of Z33. The artworks will inspire visitors to look at their environment in a new and different way. pit is an organic project that continues to grow, month after month.

Fred Eerdekens’s medium for his art is language, the functioning of which is reflected in his works. These works present ‘biased’ images with a hidden message that the viewer is invited to interpret. To understand the art, you as viewer need to take a specific point of view.
Eerdekens’s piece Borgloon shows a creased line in the landscape. From a certain perspective, this line changes in the viewer’s perception. Only from this particular view point does the obvious become visible.

First leased by Steven Parrino more than two decades ago, 1107 Manhattan Avenue is a studio in Brooklyn that has housed a number of artists throughout the years. 1107 Manhattan Avenue is an intimate look into the work of its current tenants, the influence they have on one another, and pays homage to the spirit and integrity of this studio.

The upcoming exhibition at Diamler Contemporary is entitled “Conceptual Tendencies 1960′s to Today”. It will feature recent acquisitions alongside a variety of Concept Art related works from their collection. The expression “Concept Art” was coined by Sol LeWitt in the mid-1960′s, and the exhibition will show art representing varying trends from that period up to the 1990′s – by artists such as Albert Mertz, Joseph Kosuth, Daniel Buren, Andre Cadere, Olivier Mosset, Arakawa and Dan Graham – alongside pictorial and media statements by more recent exponents of Conceptual Tendencies such as Martin Boyce, Santiago Sierra, Jonathan Monk, Isabell Heimerdinger, Andres Reiter Raabe and Lasse Schmidt Hansen. A total of 80 works by 20 artists from Germany and further afield will be shown.

Concept Art as an independent artistic movement developed in the USA and Europe in the mid 1960′s, based on fundamentally new definitions of the work of art and the role of the viewer in Minimal Art and Zero Avantgarde around 1960. The characteristic formal features are clearly defined: Objective structures, creative systems that are complete in themselves and – overcoming classical painting and sculpture – a tendency to dematerialize the artwork. The conditions under which art comes into being are examined, along with temporal and spatial structures, the congruency of theory and practice, the possibility of involving the viewer intellectually and physically, and also the general conditions for presenting and responding to art in institutional contexts.

Tessa Farmer at National Trust Mottisfont Abbey
Enchanted Garden: Flower Fairies and Dark Tales

In the work of Spencer Brownstone Gallery’s Tessa Farmer, the miniature winged creatures occupy what seems to be a visionary, transitory state between life and death. These microscopically detailed sculptures are created from organic, found materials and objects, including tree roots, insectile remains and road kill.

In this new work, Farmer was particularly inspired by the plant and wildlife found in the grounds and gardens of the 13th century Mottisfont Abbey at National Trust, forming the basis for this commission. Named ‘hell’s angels’ or simply ‘fairies’, Farmer’s creatures weave a fantasy drawn from literature, legends, and her own imagination.
